Duterte demands UN Security Council ‘reform itself’

MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday mentioned the United Countries will have to reform itself, in particular its Safety Council, as he believes it now not upholds “democracy and transparency.”

The principle accountability of the UN Safety Council, composed of 15 participants, is to take care of global peace and safety.

“Democracy and transparency are considerations that reverberate within the halls of the UN however mockingly the Safety Council, the top of your construction, violates each guideline of those values. It’s neither democratic nor clear in its presentation and processes,” Duterte mentioned in a recorded video addressing the UN Basic Meeting.

“Many member-states have spoken firmly and we agree. This merely isn’t proper. If the UN is to guide the arena out of the numerous crises we are facing, issues want to trade. The UN will have to empower itself by means of reforming itself. Therein lies the hope of humanity.”

The council’s 5 everlasting participants are China, France, Russian Federation, the UK, and the USA.

Its closing 10 participants, which elected for two-year phrases by means of the Basic Meeting, are Estonia, India, Eire, Kenya, Mexico, Niger, Norway, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Tunisia, and Vietnam.
